The Big Meet Up- All Things Welsh

Background:

The Big Meet Up’s are designed to bring families together for support, connection, and fun. We offer termly events for young people, with a range of activities. From arts and crafts to sports, providing opportunities for children to explore their interests and develop new skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

This Big Meet Up had the theme ‘All Things Welsh’. We chose this theme to celebrate Wales ahead of St David’s Day.

Our Activities:

We had a beatboxing and DJ workshop where the young people could learn beatboxing, use the DJ decks and create tunes.

Another popular activity was our love spoon craft area. We had a variety of wooden templates including love spoons, dragons, and daffodils. Participants of all ages enjoyed getting creative and painting them in their own way.

For our younger attendees, we had a craft area where they could make pompom sheep, daffodil hanging decorations, and number counting caterpillars.

We also had a graffiti workshop where attendees could get creative and experiment through designing their own graffiti artwork.

A highlight of the event was the animal therapy area. We had rabbits, guinea pigs, and mice which the attendees thoroughly enjoyed holding and petting.

At SPW we recognise that the Big Meet Ups may be overwhelming to some individuals. Therefore, we always offer a sensory area filled with gadgets and sensory toys that can be used to calm and relax the young people.

We also had a board game table, providing an entertaining escape for families to bond and have fun.

Feedback:

We received lots of great positive feedback about our Big Meet Up.

The animal therapy area was particularly well received and had lots of positive feedback. Many attendees expressed how nice it was to be able to hold the animals and some shared that it made them feel calm and relaxed.

Looking Ahead and Next Events:

The Big Meet Up’s are always a success. We enjoy creating a safe environment for families to come together and have some fun.

The next Big Meet Up will be on the 13th of April in Cardiff.

We hope to see you there!
