Spotlight Interview- Suzy McGarrity- Law Works and Zeus Law Monthly Free Clinic
Suzy from Law Works talks about her organisation and the monthly clinic that they are setting up in partnership with Zeus Law fro SPW members.
Tell us about your organisation and how it started?
LawWorks is the trading name of the Solicitors Pro Bono Group which launched in 1997. Our aim is to encourage lawyers into volunteering to provide legal advice free of charge to members of the public. This helps to address major barriers to accessing legal advice which most people in the UK face due to changes to Legal Aid (government funded legal advice), high private legal fees and legal 'deserts' where there are very few law firms. These issues disproportionately affect women, ethnic minorities and those on a low income.
Tell us about the projects or services that you run?
We run several projects which provide legal advice 'pro bono', such as our free advice clinics network, our Free Legal Answers website, and direct advice services such as the Voices for Families project, which provides legal support with housing and community care issues for families with seriously ill children.*

What does the next year look like for your organisation?
In particular, LawWorks has recently worked with Zeus Family Law in North Cardiff and Single Parents Wellbeing to set up a monthly clinic providing free initial family law advice specifically to single parents, launching on the 28th of March 2025.
