The Big Meet Up- Festive Special

Background:

The Big Meet Up’s are designed to bring families together for support, connection, and fun. We offer termly events for young people, with a range of activities. From arts and crafts to sports, providing opportunities for children to explore their interests and develop new skills in a supportive and inclusive environment.

This Big Meet Up revolved around Christmas. We chose this theme to create a festive and fun environment ahead of Christmas.

Our Activities:

We had a festive gift-wrapping station where attendees could select a gift to give to someone special for Christmas, and we would wrap it for them. There was an extensive selection of gifts, ranging from toys and self-care packages to craft kits and more, ensuring there was something for everyone.

Another popular activity was our Christmas card-making area. Participants of all ages enjoyed expressing their creativity as they designed and decorated personalized cards in any style they liked.

For those who enjoy hands-on activities, our pompom-making area was a great way for attendees to get creative by making colourful and fluffy pompom crafts.

We also had a biscuit decorating activity, where attendees could decorate some delicious festive biscuits to take home and enjoy.

A highlight of the event was a magical visit from Santa and one of his elves. Children lined up to speak with Santa and were delighted to receive a festive chocolate selection box from him.

At SPW we recognise that the Big Meet Ups may be overwhelming to some individuals. Therefore, we always offer a sensory area filled with gadgets and sensory toys that can be used to calm and relax the young people.

We also had a board game table, providing an entertaining escape for families to bond and have fun

Feedback:

We received lots of great positive feedback about our Festive Big Meet Up.

The gift-wrapping station was particularly well received and had lots of positive feedback. Many attendees expressed that they thought it was a fantastic idea, and several young people shared how excited they were to give the gifts that they’d chosen to their friends and family.

Looking Ahead and Next Events:

The Big Meet Up’s are always a success. We enjoy creating a safe environment for families to come together and have some fun.

The next Big Meet Up will be on the 23rd of February in Swansea. The theme is ‘All things Welsh’.
