Our Approach to Empowering Single Parent Families

Peer led, compassionate and connected approach to being in a single parent household,, improving the mental wellbeing of single parent families.

Being part of a single parent household, the challenges are unique, diverse, and often emotionally charged. At Single Parents Wellbeing (SPW), we prioritise a compassionate and positive approach to support these unique challenges of single-parent living.

We wanted to dissect our distinctive approach, emphasising peer led, coproduced, and proactive strategies that empower single parents and foster a strong sense of community.

Our Approach:

1. Peer Led and Coproduced:

  • We believe in the power of shared experiences. Our approach is driven by the notion that those who have walked similar paths are best equipped to understand and support one another. Through peer-led initiatives and co-production, we create an environment where single parents actively contribute to shaping SPW and services offered.

2. Proactive, Creative, Solution Building:

  • We are not just problem-solvers; we are solution builders. SPW adopts a proactive and creative mindset to address the unique challenges faced by single parents. We understand that every journey is different, and our goal is to listen to and empower single parents to overcome obstacles and thrive.

3. Power of Network and Lived Experience:

  • We harness the power of our network and value the lived experiences of our community members. By building connections and learning from one another, we create a supportive community that goes beyond traditional support structures.

We support single parents by connecting them to share experiences and solutions. We believe in the power of community and creativity to overcome challenges and thrive together.

We achieve this by:

Employment and Volunteering Opportunities:

  • We are committed to breaking down barriers. By actively employing single parents and engaging volunteers from within our community, we provide meaningful opportunities for growth, fostering a sense of purpose and belonging.

Events, Socials, and Workshops:

  • Creating a safe and connected community is at the core of what we do. Through peer led events, socials, and workshops, we aim to reduce isolation and loneliness, building a single-parent family community that supports and uplifts each other.

Self-Development:

  • We recognise that a single parent's journey is complex. Our commitment to self-development involves offering empowering advice, holistic services, and opportunities to build skills, ensuring that single parents can continually grow and elevate themselves.

Campaigning:

  • Advocacy and representation is vital in challenging stereotypes and promoting understanding. We empower single-parent families to have a voice, raising awareness and busting stigmas surrounding single parenthood.

Online Presence:

  • Recognising the importance of staying connected, we extend our support online, reaching single parents across Wales. Our online resources provide valuable support and information to those who may not have easy access to in-person services.

Our Culture:

1. Compassion:

  • We prioritise kindness and thoughtfulness, treating everyone with respect and appreciation

for their unique perspectives.

2. Collaboration:

  • Transparency is key to collaborating openly, sharing successes and challenges in our mission to improve wellbeing for single parent households. We are peer led and coproduced.

3. Can-Do Attitude:

  • We believe in the power of  focus  and achievement, striving to create a lasting positive impact on wellbeing in our community.. We believe that anything is possible.

4. Courage:

  • Forward-thinking and innovative, we courageously do things differently ,encouraging an environment where openness and expression are valued.

5. Curiosity and Creativity:

  • We encourage curiosity and creativity as we explore new ways to support and uplift single parents, recognising that innovation is essential in addressing the evolving needs of our community.

Our holistic approach is a commitment to the wellbeing of single parents. By embracing diversity, fostering community, and upholding our values, we strive to create a safe space where every single parent feels welcomed, supported, and empowered on their unique journey.
